Our web site is testra.com About twenty years ago it became apparent automobile based transit was dangerous, more than forty thousand people die in auto accidents each year, inefficient, noisy, disruptive and consuming natural resources at an unsustainable rate. I began working on the problem and applied to the DOT for a grant to design a new transit system. The plan was to have engineering students at ASU draw up plans for the system, and build a demonstration model, but it was rejected, they were looking for ways to improve current technology, not come up with a new method. I was thinking it might be possible to fund the project using donations, that would convert into stock options when the project became viable, if the scheme didn't violate SEC regulations. I have a rough design for a 1/25 scale model and plan to build a small system in the future to prove the concept. The correct way to market the project would be create an animation using Solid Works or AutoCad and sell the idea directly to the public. The new system would be disruptive to all segments of transportation but small electric vehicles, so I wouldn't expect much support from current financial markets. I roughly estimate the system would cost about 1/3 of the auto based system and reduce transit time by a factor of two or three. (a 600 to 900 percent improvement in efficiency) The track is elevated using the same technology as above ground power distribution. Vehicles are ultra light and always kept at least 180 feet apart to minimize the load and cost of the rails. The rails are passive, there are no switches, cars change tracks by using an alternate set of wheels. What is your field of expertise? I think it would be great to have a tram that connected Seattle to Portland, for starters project. Eventually connecting the entire west coast could be a smart extension of that, since the west coast is so coast. but of course, you'd have to be careful about disturbing the landscape. Following existing interstates would America, there's I-70, I-80, and I-90 that could easily be followed, as long as you made sure major cities were being I would definitely use this system, and I know many others would as well.
